The Poetics Seminar: I. The Fool
20/09/2017

I want to start by saying something about “the poetic”. To begin, we can emphasize the
poetic as being “an event of language” – the becoming of language.

What is this event precisely? What does it produce – what are its consequences or
effects? I would say that the poetic relates us to the edge of language as a
communicative project; it turns us toward the sensuality of voice and the body, and in
doing so, the poetic produces another type of knowledge: what we might call, at least
for today, the “knowledge of the idiot”.
